The SBTG gallery is a truly inspiring showcase of our trailblazing journey that highlights our belief that past mistakes do not define one's future. Looking back on our transformative, unforeseen journey is truly eye-opening and motivating for others. It's clear that we are on a quest to help others reach their true potential, and our dedication and perseverance are from the heart. We are grateful for the opportunity to pursue this journey and to inspire others with our example.

The Beginning

This video is our opportunity to share our experiences of returning to society after being incarcerated. We talk about the obstacles we faced and how we overcame them to create new and fulfilling lives. Watch now to get more details!

Reentry Month - South Carolina

Reentry month is such a vital time for us. It gives us the chance to share our experiences, answer important questions, and help others navigate the difficult journey of returning to society after being incarcerated. We know firsthand how challenging it can be to adjust back to life on the outside, but we also know that with the right support and resources, it's possible to build a new and fulfilling life. We're excited to be a part of this event and to use our stories to inspire and empower others who are going through the same thing.

The Start of a Movement

We have a strong desire to help those struggling and are eager to start a new chapter in their lives. In this video, we share the name of our non-profit organization, Sista's Bridging the Gap, a reentry program to assist returning citizens.

Interview - Small_Taaalk

This video discusses one sister's experiences as a Journeywoman welder with over 30 certifications in an all-male construction environment. She details the systemic issues facing many challenges, from dealing with racism, sexism, and harassment from unskilled workers and Foremen, discriminatory practices, and the companies that allow such behavior. The other sister describes similar problems at the federal level, with policies and practices that make it harder for women of color and other marginalized groups to succeed in the federal government. It can be frustrating at times, but we're hopeful that we can make a difference by speaking out and working together. This interview aired on PBS in Fairfax, VA.

Community Outreach - United Partners

Our community outreach efforts have been successful thanks to collaborations throughout the DMV. We proudly worked side-by-side in the United Partners food pantry to help feed families in need, including seniors and the homeless.

Community Outreach - Young Entrepreneurs

The children in our communities deserve our attention, support, and patronage for their small businesses!

Community Outreach - Save Our Hoods

Our community outreach efforts have been successful thanks to collaborations throughout the DMV. We proudly supported the "Save our Hoods" walk dedicated to saving black lives by working to eradicate intracommunity gun violence.

Community Outreach - Dakota Park 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

Our community outreach efforts have been successful thanks to collaborations throughout the DMV. We proudly sponsored the 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Dakota Park in Washington, DC. This was a way to unite neighborhoods with a shared passion for basketball! In addition, we used this opportunity to feed children and others that frequented the park with fresh fruit, a healthy meal, water, and Gatorade.

Community Outreach - School Supply Drives Throughout the School Year

Seeing our impact on communities through our outreach efforts is fantastic! Thanks to the support of local businesses and organizations like Gum Springs Community Center and Lickity Split Ice Cream, we provided school supplies to students in need. In addition, we substantially donated supplies and backpacks to the United Community. It's heartwarming to know we can make a difference while enjoying delicious, all-natural ice cream.

Community Outreach - Safe Night Out

We seek events that bring together police, community members, and individuals reentering society after incarceration because they can benefit all involved. These events are a great way to build stronger relationships between law enforcement and community members, providing opportunities for education and awareness about safety, crime prevention, and reentry resources. They can also help to break down stereotypes and promote mutual respect and trust. By working together, police, community members, and individuals in or seeking a reentry program can create a safer and more supportive community for everyone

Community Outreach - Community Service & Halfway House Requirements

Our Sistas create opportunities for individuals to learn new skills and satisfy their community service orders or halfway house requirements while giving back to the community.

Notorious Runway Productions presents The Mask Models (vendor)

NRPs vision and goal, in line with its Producer and CEO, Norman Cole, is to provide young people an opportunity to showcase their talents in the fine arts through community, civic, and social events and to offer scholarships to deserving college students. Mr. Cole recognized that young adults and teenagers needed an avenue that would allow them the opportunity to integrate into mainstream society through community participation in the fine arts.  As a result, SBTG had the pleasure and opportunity to be a vendor at this event to raise money for online Welding 101 Classes with a hands-on component.

AFROtech Executive

I was excited to attend an event series to empower corporate executives, investors, and tech moguls in Seattle, WA. As a Responsible Artificial Intelligence Official, moderating fireside chats with influential speakers such as Jessica O. Matthews, CEO and founder of Unchartered, is vital. These conversations will help to demystify AI as a cutting-edge technology and emphasize the importance of harnessing its benefits while minimizing potential harms.

Norway (Oslo and Bergen)

Our Sista had the opportunity to visit Oslo and Bergen, Norway, to participate in discussions on international research, such as offshore winds, pandemic response, transatlantic data sharing, computer vision, and AI ethics and law. The trip demonstrated Norway's beauty, architecture, diversity and inclusion of the Norwegian culture, and technological advancements.

Community Outreach - The New Royal Family Annual Fashion Show

Honoring the homeless benefits both the individuals experiencing homelessness and society by fostering compassion, understanding, and engagement. By recognizing their humanity and providing support, we can work towards a more inclusive and compassionate community, making strides in addressing homelessness and creating a society that values the well-being and dignity of all its members. It was an honor to dress our models and watch the confidence in their stride ($1,250 in custom clothing donated to models).

SETI Institute

Our Sista had the rare opportunity to visit the SETI Institute, meet the excellent staff and researchers, learn about planets, space travel history, and the black women that made it all happen, and touch the instruments from that Apollo 11 mission. However, the question still remains...are we alone?

Our Sista has a great opportunity not to just coordinate and ensure sponsorship of cutting-edge technologies to resolve some of the Federal government's most challenging issues. In addition, our Sista has an excellent opportunity to serve as a panelist to comment on each project and ask questions to the researchers regarding their discoveries.
